Mouse DPI checker

Measure the DPI your mouse really uses. Move it a set distance along a ruler and read the result.

Put a ruler beside your mouse and mark where it starts. Press Start, slide the mouse in a straight line along the ruler for the full distance, then click or press Space.

How to check your mouse DPI

  1. Set upLay a ruler or tape measure beside your mouse pad. In Windows, switch off Enhance pointer precision if you are not using Chrome or Edge.
  2. Enter a distanceUse at least 10 cm. A longer distance, 20 to 30 cm, gives a more exact result.
  3. Press Start and slideMove the mouse in a straight line along the ruler for the whole distance, then click or press Space to stop.
  4. Repeat three timesEach run is added to the average. If the runs agree, you can trust the number.

What the number means

DPI, also written CPI, is how many counts the mouse reports for each inch you move it. A mouse set to 800 DPI sends 800 counts when you slide it one inch. The game turns each count by an angle that depends on your in-game sensitivity.

Your result will rarely be exact. A value close to a familiar step such as 400, 800, 1200 or 1600 is almost certainly that setting. The mouse software shows the DPI the mouse is set to, and that is the number to trust if it and the checker disagree by a few percent.

Find your DPI without measuring

How to check your mouse DPI lists four ways. The quickest: open the software from the mouse maker and look at the active profile. Many mice also have a DPI button, often near the scroll wheel, with a light or an on-screen message that shows the current step. The spec sheet on the maker’s site lists the steps the mouse supports.

Once you know your DPI

Put it into the eDPI calculator with your in-game sensitivity, or into the converter to move your aim to another game. What is eDPI? explains how the two numbers combine.

Questions

How do I check my mouse DPI?

Put a ruler beside your mouse, press Start on this page, slide the mouse in a straight line for the distance you entered, then click or press Space. The page divides the counts the mouse reported by the distance in inches and shows your DPI.

How accurate is the DPI checker?

Most of the error comes from the distance you move, so a longer distance gives a better result. Moving 20 to 30 cm is more exact than 10 cm. Run it three times and look at the average.

Why is my result a few percent away from the DPI in my mouse software?

Many mouse sensors report a little more or less than the number they are set to, and you will not slide the mouse in a perfectly straight line. A result within a few percent of 400, 800 or 1600 almost always means that setting.

Does Windows pointer speed change the result?

In Chrome and Edge the checker asks for unadjusted mouse movement, so pointer speed and acceleration should not affect it. In other browsers the movement may be changed by the system, so turn off Enhance pointer precision and set the pointer speed to the middle step first.

What DPI should I use?

There is no single right value. Many players use 400 to 1600 DPI, and the in-game sensitivity then sets the speed. In SensLab's October 2026 dataset of 999 verified pro settings, 52 percent use 800 DPI and 76 percent use either 800 or 1600. Your eDPI and your cm/360 describe the result better than DPI alone.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The measurement runs in your browser and nothing you do on this page is sent anywhere.
