How the DPI converter works

Your aim depends on your eDPI, which is your mouse DPI multiplied by your in-game sensitivity. When you change the DPI, the sensitivity has to change the other way so the eDPI stays the same: new sensitivity = old sensitivity × old DPI ÷ new DPI.

For example, 800 DPI at a sensitivity of 0.4 is an eDPI of 320. At 1600 DPI the same eDPI needs a sensitivity of 0.2. The distance your mouse travels for a full turn does not change.

Common DPI changes

DPI changeSensitivity rule0.4 becomes
400 → 800Divide by 20.2
800 → 1600Divide by 20.2
1600 → 800Multiply by 20.8
800 → 400Multiply by 20.8
1000 → 800Multiply by 1.250.5
1200 → 800Multiply by 1.50.6
800 → 3200Divide by 40.1
3200 → 1600Multiply by 20.8

Moving to another game?

This page only changes the DPI inside one game. To carry your aim from one game to another use the sensitivity converter, and read what eDPI is if the numbers are new to you. Not sure of your DPI? Measure it with the DPI checker.

Questions

How do I convert my sensitivity when I change DPI?

Multiply your sensitivity by your old DPI and divide by your new DPI. Going from 800 to 1600 DPI means dividing your sensitivity by 2, so 0.4 becomes 0.2. Your eDPI and your cm/360 stay the same.

What is 800 to 1600 DPI conversion?

Your new sensitivity is half of the old one. Doubling the DPI doubles how fast the view turns for the same mouse movement, so the in-game sensitivity has to halve to compensate.

Does changing DPI change my aim?

Not if you adjust the sensitivity to match. The cm/360, the distance your mouse travels for a full turn, stays the same. A higher DPI can make the cursor smoother on the desktop, but the aim in game is the same.

Does this work for every game?

Yes. Changing DPI inside one game needs no game data, only your sensitivity and the two DPI values. To move between two games use the sensitivity converter instead.

How do I find my mouse DPI?

Check the software from the mouse maker, or measure it with the mouse DPI checker on this site.
