How to use the mouse test
- Click inside the boxPress the left, right and middle buttons. Each one lights up on the drawing and counts the presses.
- Try the side buttonsIf your mouse has back and forward buttons, press them too. Not every mouse reports them to a web page.
- Roll the wheelScroll up, then down. Roll slowly in a single direction and watch that the direction changes counter stays at zero.
- Read the faultsA double-click fault means one press arrived as two, less than 60 milliseconds apart.
What the readings mean
Each counter shows what the browser received from your mouse. A button that never lights up is not sending a click, or the mouse is sending it as something else. A press that counts twice is a double-click fault. A wheel that changes direction while you roll one way is misreading its sensor.
Cleaning the wheel opening with compressed air fixes some scroll problems. A button that double clicks is usually a worn switch, and a warranty claim or a new mouse is the usual cure.
Check your aim settings too
A working mouse is the first step. Next, find out the DPI your mouse really uses, then move your sensitivity between games with the converter.
Questions
How do I test my mouse buttons?
Click inside the test box with each button in turn. The matching button on the drawing lights up while you hold it, and its counter goes up by one for every press.
How do I test my mouse scroll wheel?
Roll the wheel up and down inside the box. Each notch adds to the scroll up or scroll down counter. Roll slowly in one direction: the direction changes counter should stay at zero.
My mouse double clicks by itself. How do I check it?
Press the left button once, firmly, a few times. If the double-click faults counter goes up, the button sent two presses less than 60 milliseconds apart, which is faster than a person can click twice on purpose. That is a worn switch or a dirty contact.
Why does my scroll wheel jump back while I scroll down?
Dust or wear on the wheel sensor can read a notch in the wrong direction. If the direction changes counter goes up while you roll one way, the sensor is misreading the wheel.
Why do the back and forward buttons not light up?
Some mice send those side buttons as keyboard shortcuts or need the maker's software to be switched on. Browsers report them as buttons 4 and 5, so a mouse that sends something else will not show here.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The test only reads the clicks and scrolls that happen inside the box, and none of it leaves your browser.
